2026 WCQ Playoffs: Super Eagles can’t afford mistakes – Troost-Ekong
William Troost-Ekong has said the Super Eagles can’t afford to make mistakes as they fight to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, DAILY POST reports.
Eric Chelle’s side failed to secure direct qualification to the mundial.
The West Africans will however compete in the African playoffs with Gabon, Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nigeria will take on the Panthers of Gabon in the first semi-final at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex, Rabat on Thursday.
The winner will face either Cameroon or Democratic Republic of Congo in the final.
Next for the winner of the mini-tournament is place at the International Continental Playoffs in March 2026.
Troost-Ekong stated that they can’t afford any slip up at this stage.
“We’ve built great chemistry, and the mindset in camp is positive. Although preparation time is short, we’re focused. It’s a one-off game on neutral ground, and we know we must win to reach the final playoff. There’s no room for error,” the centre-back told Olympics.com.
