7-year-old girl becomes blind after teenage brother pluck-ed her eyes off in Bauchi | READ DETAILS

A seven-year-old Rukayya Muhammad, has been declared permanently blind after his 17-year-old brother, Auwal Dahiru, and five others plucke-d out her eyes in a suspected money ritu-al attempt in Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

 

According to a statement issued on Monday by the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident was reported on October 17, 2025, by one Muhammad Adamu of Bayan Dutse Village at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters. He alleged that at about 8 pm, Auwal lured his younger sister into a nearby bush, a-ttacked her with intent to k-ill, and forcef-ully p-lucked out her eyes.

The PPRO said the Divisional Police Officer, Aliyu Goni, swiftly led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested while the victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention.

“Unfortunately, a medical doctor (eye specialist) at the hospital confirmed that the young girl will never regain her vision for the rest of her life,” the statement read.

Wakil further disclosed that other suspects were arrested in connection with the crime including Mohammed Rabiu, 19, Saleh Ibrahim, 20, Nasiru Muhammad of Soro town, Hassan Garba of Soro town, and Garba Dahiru, 43.

He said all the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation.

“The investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind their heinous act and bring all individuals connected to justice,” Wakil added.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and professional investigation.
