The Representative of Aba North/South federal constituency, Hon Alex Mascot Ikwuechgh have been accused of sabotage and deviation of his core legislative responsibilities to his constituency to championing the old Bende endorsement of Governor Alex Chioma Otti for a second term in 2027. The coalition of Aba Ngwa Leaders, which includes, traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders under the banner of the Abangwa Indigenous Movement condemned in totality the recent political move by the member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, as they described his actions as “undemocratic” and a “betrayal of constituency trust.” A move they said does not reflect the interest or mandate of Aba North and South constituents.

This was disclosed at a meeting in Eziama Hall by the Abangwa Indigenous Movement Aba on Monday said the endorsement was premature and amounted to “political harlotry” and “leadership sabotage,” noting that Ikwechegh had publicly declared there would be no governorship contest for the 2027–2031 period, effectively excluding Aba Ngwa people from future leadership opportunities.

The group stressed that while they maintain cordial relations with their Old Bende counterparts, they will not tolerate any form of misrepresentation, marginalization, or exclusion in political decision-making.

They called on Hon. Ikwechegh to urgently convene a town hall meeting to explain his actions and present an accountability report to the people of Aba Ngwa. Failure to do so, they warned, would trigger a recall process.

The communique issued after their meeting was signed by:

Elder Rowland Justice Ajuziogu

Hon. (Prince) Adimchinobi Nwaigwe (Pillar)

Hon. (Prince) Jamike Innocent Ikonne (President, ANYC)

Hon. (Chief) Israel Agwuwa

Hon. (Elder) China Mbama

Comr. Ogechukwu Ogbonna

Hon. (Chief) Nnamdi Nwamkpa

High Chief Elijah Nwachi

Hon. Christian Emejiaka

Hon. (Mrs) Promise Nwagba

Mrs. Ego Love Aroh

Hon. Chikamale Ebereendu

The leaders concluded by reaffirming their commitment to protecting the interests of the Aba Ngwa people, insisting that “representation must be about the people, not personal political ambitions.”
