The leadership crisis in the Labour Party seems to have taken an unexpected dimension against the expectations of the Nenadi Camp as the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) the regulatory body of all the political parties in Nigeria replied the Nenadi Faction of their inability of the commission to honour a request of the Nenadi and Nwokocha Caretaker Committee after carefully scrutinising the constitution of the Labour Party.
This development came when the interim committee notified the electoral umpire of their intention to dissolve all state, LGA, and Ward executive of the party and also the constitution of an interim state working committee of the party across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT).
The letter addressed to the Nenadi Faction which was dated 16th February 2026 and signed by the commission’s secretary Dr Rose Oriaran- Anthony, explicitly clarified the position of the commission, despite the recent judgement of the federal high court mandating the commission to upload the names of the Nenadi led interim committee.
The letter read:
“Your letter dated 6th February 2026 and received on the 10th of February 2026 refers:
The commission regrets to inform you that the dissolution of the state, local government and ward executives of your party in all the 36 states and the FCT by the National Executive Council ( NEC) without giving the statutory notice of the meeting to the commission and without the authority to act in line with your party constitution cannot be acceded.
Accept the assurances of the commission’s high regards”
This recent developments is a plus to the Abure faction as they have the composition of NEC in line with the Labour Party constitution and the electoral act.
Meanwhile, Abure’s faction has since appealed the judgement of the Abuja Federal High Court at the Court of Appeal in other to retrieve the structure of the party which many attributes as highly controversial.
