WATCH VIDEO: Abia Assembly finally swears in Aaron Uzodike after 9 months battle
Hon. Aaron Uzodike, has on Tuesday , August 13, 2024, been sworn in as the Member representing Aba North State Constituency of the Abia state House of Assembly.
Uzodike was sworn in by the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emereuwa, after nine months of legal battles.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Destiny Akara Nwagwu of the Labour Party, as the winner of the March 11, 2023 state House of Assembly election.
Hon Uzodike, who contested the 2023 House of Assembly election under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, contested the declaration at the Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia. Although his case was initially dismissed, a Court of Appeal in Lagos state, ultimately ruled in his favor.
His inauguration was scheduled to take place on 27th November, 2023, however, there were series of delays attributed to a court injunction and other factors.
The Speaker of the House had noted that the Court of Appeal did not explicitly mandate Uzodike’s inauguration.
