It was an electrifying gathering for genuine Labour Party faithfuls as the Abia LP flagged off their LG election campaign, Tuesday 29th October 2024.

The venue for the flag off was filled to the brim as all structures of the party from the 17 LGA of the State were fully on ground for the ceremony including their candidates for the November 2nd LG Elections in the State. The mammoth crowds were in Jubilation and hopeful in winning the election based on their anticipated political campaigns strategy and the Unity of Purpose for the Party in the State.

The Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, members of his cabinet and also those known to be his loyalists were noticeably absent in the events.Thier absence may not be unconnected to their alignment and switching to the Zenith Labour Party which have been severally reported in the news recently, as some highly placed members of the Otti’s cabinet are now seen campaigning for those candidates who are flying the flags of the ZLP including the Deputy Governor of the State who allegedly seen openly campaigning for the ZLP Chairmanship candidate for Ohafia LGA.

Although political analysts are of the view that their actions are attributable to anti party activities which ordinarily attract sanctions.

All the 17 Chairmanship candidates were presented with flags of the Party by the LP’s National Vice Chairman South East, Hon. Ceekay Igara during the flag-off ceremony.

In his address Hon Igara urged the candidates not to forget that their positions are made possible through the party’s platform, advising them to avoid viewing themselves as above the party.

He also emphasized that all political officeholders are ultimately servants of the party and should operate within its principles.

The National Vice Chairman commended the LP’s open and inclusive candidate selection process in Abia, asserting that the chosen candidates reflect the people’s choice.

“Labour Party believes in letting the people decide,” he stated, explaining that such an approach requires little campaigning, as it resonates with voters.

He also underscored the importance of transparency and accountability within the party, noting that elected members are representatives, not authorities above the LP.

“You are accountable to the party,” he warned candidates, urging them to avoid creating factions or “cabal-like” structures and to focus on serving the public with integrity.

Hon Prince Ndubueze, the state chairman of LP, re-emphasised as he , called  for an election that is free, fair, and transparent. He appealed to Governor Alex Otti to uphold democratic principles by ensuring a credible electoral process, saying, “one man, one vote.” Ndubueze also commended Otti’s achievements in office, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to lead Abia State through its grassroots representatives.

LP candidates with this flag off is set for the November election, the party’s leadership has called for a unified approach to serve the public’s interests, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the values that underlie their political ideology.
