Tension has gripped Umuchima village in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State after an unknown gunmen killed two individuals in the early hours of Friday, November 29, 2024.
One of the victims, a man identified as Osama, was reportedly accused by the assailants of providing intelligence to the Nigerian Army about their activities. The second victim was the local vigilante commander.
The incident has plunged the community into chaos, with many residents fleeing their homes out of fear for their safety. The once-peaceful village is now largely deserted, as villagers abandon their ancestral lands to escape further violence.
This attack follows a raid conducted by the Nigerian Army on Monday, targeting a camp believed to belong to the gunmen in Umuchima. The operation was aimed at dismantling the group’s stronghold in the area.
