Another Atiku’s spokesman makes volt-face
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to lure prominent and outspoken opposition members to his ruling APC looks unstoppable as such people continue to negotiate and realign.
The latest development is connected with a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, who a few days ago visited the Bourdillon residence of the President.
The former spokesman for the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, who spoke on his via Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday noted that President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is smarter than his opponents including Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
“By miles, he (Tinubu) is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi, he is smarter than them,” the PDP Chieftancy affirmed.
He further pointed out that his recent meeting with the president did not translate to a betrayal of his affiliation with Atiku, a former vice president.
According to him, “I am at liberty as an adult to take decisions.I am not tied to anybody.”
While declaring that he is not anti-Tinubu, a sudden turn that has been heavily questioned by many Nigerians, Sowunmi dismissed his detractors, declaring, “I own my mouth, I own my words, and I own my arguments”.
Reacting to the claim by many Nigerians that his actions had betrayed Atiku, Sowunmi pointed out that Atiku was running a coalition that he was not part of.
“Why would even in your wildest dream think I don’t have my individuality because of what? Do you know how long I have been in the party?” he queried.
In a sudden volt-face, the former Atiku’s spokesperson who had strongly criticized the policies of the current APC led federal government charged Nigerians not to demonize president Tinubu’s Policies and praised his mental agility.
“His brain is very alert, he is fit. You know when you are asking someone questions and he is answering without looking at the book,” he said.
Sowunmi however made it clear that he won’t accept Tinubu’s appointment whilst a PDP member.
