APC Forum hails Al-Makura’s appointment as North-Central Renewed Hope coordinator
The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has congratulated former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, on his appointment as the Renewed Hope Coordinator for the region.
DAILY POST reports that President Bola Tinubu recently appointed six zonal coordinators for Renewed Hope Initiative Committees designed to advance his administration’s developmental vision across the country.
The six zonal coordinators, who will work with the administration’s Renewed Hope Ambassador, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, are Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, South-South, Isah Yuguda, North-East, Aminu Bello Masari, North-West, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, South-East, Oladipupo Oyinbande, South-West and Al-Makura, North-Central.
The coordinators, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, are expected to spearhead strategic engagements, mobilization efforts and developmental interventions across the regions in line with the President’s vision for national renewal.
Reacting to the development in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central APC Forum described Al-Makura’s appointment as well deserved, noting that he has the capacity, and track record, to effectively handle the assignment.
The Forum pledged it’s full support for the ex-senator and called on all stakeholders in the North-Central, including state governors, members of the national and state assemblies, party leaders and political appointees, among others, to give him the needed cooperation.
“The North-Central APC Forum equally thanks President Bola Tinubu for appointing a capable and highly acceptable personality in the person of former Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura as the Renewed Hope Coordinator for the North-Central.
“Mr President could not have made a better choice and we hereby congratulate Senator Tanko Al-Makura on this well deserved appointment,” the statement said, adding that Al-Makura’s appointment as Renewed Hope coordinator will go a long way towards the actualisation of the Forum’s pledge to deliver six million votes for Tinubu in 2027.
The APC Forum noted that Al-Makura’s track record makes him the ideal person for the role in the North-Central.
The statement added, “Senator Tanko Al-Makura was the only governor in the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, bloc during the merger talks the resulted in the birth of the APC, making him one of the founders of the party. He is a two-term governor with clout and experience and both former and sitting governors see him as one of their own. As a former senator he is regarded as part and parcel of the legislature. He was among the chairmanship aspirants who accepted without grudges to the consensus option that threw up Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman during the APC National Convention in 2022. His loyalty to APC and Mr. President is not in doubt.
“He has discharged critical party assignments in the country, which gave him first hand and intrinsic knowledge of the party nationally.”
The statement highlighted party assignments handled by Al-Makura to include serving as Chairman of the Ekiti State APC Primary Election Committee that produced former Governor Kayode Fayemi in 2018. Al-Makura also served as the Chairman of the North-East Zone Reconciliation Committee in 2018, and as a member of the Bisi Akande-led APC Reconciliation Committee in 2020.
The statement added, “He has a very rich experience and knowledge of political activities as he was Youth Leader (Plateau State) in National Party of Nigeria (NPN) – 1979; State Secretary (Plateau State) in National Republican Convention– 1989; founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – 1999; Governor on the platform of the CPC – 2011; pioneer member and signatory to the merger that found APC – 2013 and APC Senator – 2019.”
The North-Central APC Forum also pointed out that Al-Makura was among the CPC bloc stakeholders who stood by the APC and President Bola Tinubu when some members wanted to pull out of the party and join the opposition coalition, earlier in 2025.
In the same vein, the North-Central APC Forum congratulated Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, on his appointment as Director-General for Party Outreach, Engagement and Mobilisation.
In the new role, Uzodinma who was also announced as the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Ambassador, is to work closely with the leadership of the APC and state governors to champion the achievements and programmes of the Tinubu administration across all political structures.
The North-Central APC Forum described Uzodinma’s appointment as well deserved.
“We have utmost confidence that those appointed by Mr President to supervise the Renewed Hope Initiative will discharge the mandate effectively and position the APC for victory in all coming elections, particularly the 2027 election, when we believe Nigerians will attest to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda by electing Mr President for a second term in office,” the Forum said.
