ASUBEB organizes orientation programme for newly recruited Teachers
To ensure the proper equipping of the over 5000 Teachers recruited recently into the school system, the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, (ASUBEB) has organized a-two-day onboarding and orientation programme for newly recruited Educators.
Speaking at the event held at the Teachers’ House, Ibeku High School and SEMB, Umuahia, the Executive Chairman, ASUBEB, Lady Mrs. Ezihe Lydia Onuoha charged them to imbibe resilience, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Lady Onuoha described the programme organized in collaboration with Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, as a significant milestone in the current administration’s commitment to reshaping the basic education landscape and ensuring that Abia’s children receive quality education from competent and inspired educators.
She appreciated Governor Alex Otti for his bold reforms in the sector and for prioritizing education, stressing that the successful recruitment of over 5,000 competent teachers in the state reflects a strategic investment in the future of Abia children and a clear commitment to the AbiaFirst policy.
“The approval and transparent recruitment of competent teachers is not just a policy fulfillment, but a practical demonstration of the AbiaFirst agenda showing commitment to quality education, accountability, and the future of Abia children,” Lady Onuoha noted.
The ASUBEB Boss while further describing the recruitment as a practical demonstration of administrative foresight and fiscal responsibility encouraged the newly recruited teachers to remain steadfast in delivering quality education,
“You are not just educators, but mentors, nation-builders, and the moral compass for the younger generation. As mirrors of society, you must reflect the best virtues and inspire excellence in our children,” she advised
She stressed the need for the teachers to remain dedicated to continuous self-development, uphold the ethics of the teaching profession, observe proper civil service codes, especially in appearance, pointing out that they are expected to serve as role models in and out of the classroom.
Lady Onuoha who used the opportunity to thank the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, for his tireless commitment to reforming the sector and the Chairman of the Recruitment Committee, Dr. Mrs. Uzoamaka Ama Mba, for executing a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, equally lauded the Education Reform Implementation Team (ERIT), led by Barr. Mrs. Bolaji Osime, for coordinating the impactful orientation programme.
In his Remarks, the Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers Chairman, Comrade Madu Friday Chukwujekwu, described the recruitment as historic in transparency and professionalism and expressed gratitude to the Governor for fulfilling his promise made during the 2024 World Teachers’ Day celebration.
While applauding the transparent and professional nature of the recruitment process, he urged the newly recruited teachers to abide by the ethics of the profession and maintain high standards that would make the Governor and the people of Abia proud.
The NUT Chairman further reiterated the Union’s continued commitment to protecting the interests of its members.
In her remarks, ERIT Lead Barr. Mrs. Bolaji Osime encouraged the teachers to be proactive, nurturing, disciplined, and committed to delivering quality education, emphasizing the critical role of dedication and competence in the success of the ongoing educational reforms.
In her vote of thanks on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, Ms. Onuoha Chinaza expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity given to them to serve and contribute to the educational development of the state and assured that the new teachers would carry out their responsibilities with dignity, integrity, dedication, discipline, and a strong sense of duty.
