OPINION: Datti Baba-Ahmed’s NEC Bombshell: The End of Pretenders, the Rise of Strategy | READ DETAILS

By Meche Oswald

Today, history was made at the authentic ELupee NEC meeting. Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, walked into the room and shocked the political atmosphere. With calm confidence and deadly precision, he announced his return and his intention to run for the 2027 presidency under the Labour Party.

That moment was not just symbolic. It was strategic. It was the final blow to the lies, plots, and betrayal that have been building since 2023. A masterstroke from Barrister Julius Abure, a man many underestimated, but who has now proven to be the most tactical party chairman of our time.

ADVERT

But let me be honest. I am not rejoicing. I am pained. Deeply pained. Because this is the exact thing I saw coming, the very thing I fought so hard to prevent. I have always been afraid that one day, Peter Obi would find himself politically stranded. I cried out when he was being misled by sycophants who only knew how to trend on social media. I begged him to have a rethink. I warned that the so-called coalition was a trap, a political landmine planted to isolate him from his structure, from his base, from his future.

But instead of listening, they came for my head. I was insulted, dragged, mocked, called all sorts of names. Obidients, in their typical fashion, refused to see beyond emotions. Their movement became a religion of insults. Anyone who dared to speak sense was labelled an enemy. They were not interested in building anything solid. They just wanted to trend, to attack, to cancel.

P

eter Obi left his structure and looked the other way while illegal forces began to rise from within. Alex Otti, knowingly or unknowingly, gave oxygen to that illegality. Instead of defending the house that gave him a political name, he stayed silent while impostors like Nenadi Usman and her hotel-room NEC meetings tried to hijack the Labour Party. They disrespected the law, ignored the INEC-recognized leadership, and shamelessly held press conferences in rented halls like political orphans without a home.

I warned that a storm was coming. I screamed that a house divided cannot stand. But I was mocked. Still, I refused to keep quiet, because I knew the weight of what was coming.

Now, the reality is here.

Datti Baba-Ahmed did not come to play. He came with backing, real backing. There are powerful northern Nigerians behind him. Wealthy men. Influential figures who control not just Nigeria’s economy, but have strong stakes in the global economy. These are not politicians that grant interviews. These are men who sit in the shadows and make presidents. And they have chosen their man.

The same Obidient crowd who insulted Barrister Julius Abure for being strategic will now insult start Datti Ahmed for being courageous. That’s their only game plan. Attack what they cannot control. Disrespect anyone who does not bow to their toxic loyalty. Their toxicity has become their weakness.

Abure has outplayed them all. He kept calm while they called him names. He endured sabotage from within. He was called illegal by people who could not even organize a ward meeting. But today, he has shown them what real politics looks like.

The illegal camp of Ms Nenadi Usman is dead. The hotel meetings, the media charades, the so-called NEC in Abuja back corners, all of it is now history. They gambled with deception and lost to structure.

Peter Obi is now without a valid political structure. The ADC cannot give him the ticket. The coalition is gone. ADC was actually planned to strip Peter Obi off his political importance. The Labour Party has moved on. The house he once helped build has returned to the real architects, and sadly, he is not among them. I do not say this with joy. I say it with pain. Because I believed in Peter Obi. I fought for him. But I also fought for truth. And now that truth has prevailed.

Alex Otti must now choose where he belongs. Because the era of deception is over. The real Labour Party has emerged stronger, louder, and more united under Abure’s leadership.

The Obidient movement is burning out. No structure. No direction. Just online noise, toxicity, and endless entitlement. You cannot insult your way into power. You cannot abuse your own party and expect to rule through emotion. Politics is not Instagram. It is strategy, negotiation, sacrifice, and structure.

History will remember that I tried. I raised my voice when others kept silent. I stood alone many times. But today, the truth is loud. And my voice is vindicated.

Let them insult me. Let them insult Datti. Let them insult Abure. But the reality is clear. Labour Party is no longer waiting for sentiments. It has entered a new era. An era of clarity. An era of realignment.

Politics don start. The jungle don mature. And those who thought they were kings are beginning to realise they were never on the throne.

Let history write the rest.
