Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo boosts recruits’ readiness with obstacle contest
The Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, Brigadier General Buhari Madaki has commended the recruits for their grit, enthusiasm, and commitment to training, while praising the officers and instructors for their professionalism in executing their assignment.
General Madaki gave the commendation during the flag off of the Inter-Company Obstacle Crossing Competition organised for recruits of the 89 Regular Intake as part of efforts to enhance combat readiness and teamwork among trainees.
He underscored the importance of the exercise in preparing soldiers for operational demands.
This commendation was contained in a statement issued and signed by Major Yahaya Ibrahim, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, on Sunday.
The event, which held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Depot’s Obstacle Ground, formed a vital component of the recruits’ training curriculum aimed at developing resilience and the ability to overcome both physical and mental challenges under pressure.
The recruits were tested on endurance, agility, and determination as they navigated a series of physically demanding obstacles that simulated real-life combat scenarios.
The exercise was designed to instil courage, quick decision-making, and teamwork in participants.
“This competition is a crucial part of your training, preparing you for the rigours of combat and the challenges of life as soldiers. You must continue to imbibe the spirit of teamwork, courage, and resilience which are the hallmark of a professional soldier,” Madaki said.
The Commandant reaffirmed that the Depot remains dedicated to its mission of producing well-trained, disciplined, and combat-ready soldiers who are physically fit, mentally strong, and prepared to serve the nation with honour.
He noted that the Nigerian Army places great emphasis on physical and mental conditioning as the foundation for effective military performance and leadership in the field.
At the conclusion of the competition, Charlie Training Company emerged the overall champion, demonstrating outstanding teamwork, endurance, and discipline throughout the contest.
Delta Training Company finished in the wooden spoon position, while individual recruits who excelled in specific segments of the event received medals and commendations for their exceptional performances.
