Dismissing fact of genocide against Christians insensitive – University don
A Professor of International Relations and Strategic Studies at the University of Lagos, Prof. David Aworawo, has described the dismissal of fact of Christian genocide in Nigeria as insensitive.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST on Friday, Aworawo said such a dismissal will hinder solution to the problem.
His comment is coming after President Donald Trump of the United States designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, CPC, in response to allegations of widespread persecution and genocide against Christians.
The Federal Government, however, dismissed the allegation, describing it as false, misleading, and not reflective of the reality on the ground.
Reacting, Aworawo said, “What I expect from both the Nigerian and American governments is an approach to this issue characterised by sincerity and candour. The Nigerian government’s insistence that there is no genocide occurring in Nigeria is not entirely accurate.
“However, the government is not directly responsible for the genocide against Nigerians; rather, it is non-state actors whom the government opposes that carry out these atrocities.”
