Gov Alex otti’s Stakeholders meeting appoints Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as Caretaker Committee Chairman.

The extended Stakeholders meeting of the Labour Party convened by the Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the Chairman and Secretary respectively.

Their appointment was announced during at stakeholders meeting convened by the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti in Umuahia, Abia State capital, on Wednesday.

The National Chairman of Labour Party Bar Julius Abure, NEC and State Chairmen and Secretaries of the Labour Party had since distanced from the meeting siting it’s illegality and at such a contravention of the party Constitution.

However, the meeting went on without the considerations of the relevant sections of the party Constitution, that gave the powers of the National Chairman and the National Secretary of the party to convene such a meeting.

The new caretaker committee as constituted by Alex otti is saddled with the mandate of rescuing the party from its current leadership crisis.

Senator Usman, a former Minister of Finance and representative of Kaduna South senatorial district from 2011 to 2015, will lead the 29-member committee tasked with reorganizing the party and setting it on a path to electoral success.

The committee has 90 days to complete its assignment, which includes organizing a convention to elect new leadership from the ward to the national stage.

Immediate-past Senate Minority Deputy Leader, Senator Darlington Nwokocha from Abia Central, will serve as the Secretary of the committee.

The meeting was hosted by Gov. Alex Otti. It was attended by top party officials, including presidential candidate Peter Obi, his running mate Datti Ahmed, Senator Victor Umeh, and Lagos State governorship candidate Rhodes-Vivour.
