Gov Otti directs resolution of misunderstanding between Govt and Abia Pensioners

Abia pensioners may soon smile as the Governor, Dr Alex Otti has taken steps to end the misunderstanding between the the State government and the State chapter of the Nigerian Union of pensioners

Receiving in audience a delegation of the National Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, led by its National President, Mazi Godwin Abumisi, Governor Otti directed his Senior Special Assistant on Labour Matters, Comrade Godson Aǹucha and other top government functionaries to discuss with the National Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners for a possible resolution of the impasse.

The Governor who made it clear that Abia pensioners were one of his major supporters in 2015, 2019 and 2023 elections blamed the misunderstanding between his government and the State NUP on the insincerity of its leadership.

While stating that his administration has been consistent in paying monthly pensions to Abia pensioners on or before 28th of every month, wondered why the leadership of NUP in the state find comfort in propagating falsehood.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the Delegation and National President NUP Mazi Godwin Abumisi, who described Governor Otti as a Star performer, said that the Union was in the to plead with the Governor to forgive the leadership of Abia NUP and consider revisiting the lingering issues of pensions and gratuity in the State.

He however pointed out that whatever document signed by the NUP leadership in the state with the state government concerning their gratuity was signed in ignorance and contrary to the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
