International Women’s Day: Igara Calls For Accelerating Action for Gender Equality | Read More
The National Vice Chairman of Labour Party Southeast, Hon. Ceekay Igara has called for accelerated action for gender equality as Nigeria grapple to give women their right of place in different spheres of the economy.
Igara in a statement described the theme for the celebration as apt and emphasized collective actions to drive meaningful change and create a more equitable world for all.
“Today, March 8th, marks International Women’s Day (IWD), a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call to action for accelerating gender equality. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality,” emphasizes the need for collective efforts to drive meaningful change and create a more equitable world for all”, he said.
“Despite progress made in recent years, women and girls continue to face significant barriers to equality, including discriminatory laws and policies, limited access to education and healthcare, and pervasive violence and harassment”, he added.
He congratulated all women in Nigeria and the South East in particular, he equally enjoined all to recognize the tireless efforts of women’s rights activists, organizations, and governments working to advance gender equality.
Igara used the opportunity to also acknowledge the countless women who are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and inspiring change in their communities.
