LP National Youth Leader Faults Minister of Youth Affairs, For The Failure Of The Proposed Presidential Youth Conference.
In a shocking revelation made by Prince Kennedy Ahanotu,
National Youth Leader of the
Labour Party on Friday 17th October 2025 in a Press release which was made available to Trustbase News highlighting surreptitiously the remote causes of the failure of the proposed National Youth Conference by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which purposes was for the President to have a first hand detailed information of what the Nigerian Youths are demanding.
But according to Ahanotu, who faulted the Nigerian Minister of youth Affairs on what he termed “parochial political elite-centric fanfare”. He maintained that “One year down the line, the conference is yet to happen because the machineries of the execution enabled by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon Ayodele Olawande whose duty it is to coordinate the all important conference have turned such vital proclamation of Mr President to a parochial political elite-centric fanfare purportedly to settle his party loyalists, personal friends, waste our scarce national financial resources, visibly due to his unimaginable but glaring incompetence in managing such a key position in the ministry of youth affairs”.
He argued that the agenda is far different from the expectations of key stakeholders and Nigerian youths across the federation, while maintaining optimism for it’s success if sentiments are set aside, being the the first of its kind in the Country which can only be propelled with a high level of credibility and non-partisanship in its execution, but however express doubts on the ability of the Honourable Minister of Youth and his core team as he alleged the duo had dubiously and maliciously designed the concept to capture some youth population who lacks adequate political awareness, experience and trends to execute a very robust conference.
“Recall that over a year ago, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a National Youth Conference to be able to have a first hand detailed information of what the Nigerian Youths are demanding. One year down the line, the conference is yet to happen because the machineries of the execution enabled by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon Ayodele Olawande whose duty it is to coordinate the all important conference have turned such vital proclamation of Mr President to a parochial political elite-centric fanfare purportedly to settle his party loyalists, personal friends, waste our scarce national financial resources, visibly due to his unimaginable but glaring incompetence in managing such a key position in the ministry of youth affairs.
We have carefully examined with utmost interest the activities of the un-inclusive planning Committee that was inaugurated months ago, and from all indications the agenda is far different from the expectation of the generality of Nigerian Youths as well as the key youth stakeholders like the National Youth Leaders of other Political Parties, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, and other key statutory National and regional Youth organizations who are at the forefront of youth representation in Nigeria. It is also informing to mention that major youth stakeholders were not even captured adequately in the planning committee, which is made up of majorly some his personal friends with only few youth minded civil society organizations.
No doubt, this conference is the first of its kind in Nigeria political space. Hence, it requires a high level of credibility and non-partisanship in its execution. The conference was expected to be highly inclusive with several debates and submission of diverse memoranda from various political parties, ethnic nationalities, and youth oriented civil society organizations in Nigeria, but from the look of things the Honourable Minister of Youth and his core team has dubiously and maliciously designed the concept to capture some youth population who lacks adequate political awareness, experience and trends to execute a very robust conference.
We, therefore, wish to first and foremost
1. Dissociate ourselves from the purportedly planned national youth conference until we see a very proactive concept note and roadmap of the said confab, which at the moment seems to have shut out the key youth stakeholders.
2. We also demand an immediate resignation of the current Minister of Youth as clearly he does not possess the moral, emotional, and mental stability/capacity to galvanise Nigerian youths.
3. We also, after several hours of deliberation, demand that the Minister of Youths should make public the stipulated budget of the planned youth conference for public knowledge and also the concept note of that celebrated national youth conference.
4. We are aware that the Minister of Youth Affairs have presented/implemented budgets, and therefore demands a public presentation of the Ministry’s key budget performances because we are sure the mandate of the Ministry of Youths is very clear on the projects and programmes expected of it.
Finally, we call on all well-meaning youth stakeholders to rise up and demand that the Minister of Youth resigns with immediate effect as he has not shown adequate capacity to champion the course of Nigeria ever rugged Youths or show course why a farewell protest should not be organised against his poor performance in the ministry”.
Forward Ever
