BREAKING: Malawi’s Vice President, 9 others confirmed dead in plane crash | WATCH VIDEO
Wreckage of the plane conveying the incumbent Vice president of Malawi, Saulos Klaus Chilima, has been found without survivors.
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera revealed this on Tuesday in a televised national address.
The military aircraft conveying Chilima and none others had on Monday, been declared missing after it failed to make landing at the northern city of Mzuzu due to poor visibility and was told to return to the capital, Lilongwe.
It was later discovered by search parties that it crashed into Chikangawa forest.
“The plane has been found and I am deeply saddened and sorry to inform you all, it has turned out to be a terrible tragedy,” president Chakwera said in his address.
They had departed to attend the funeral of a former cabinet minister in Mzuzu.
Malawi’s former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri was also on board.
