Minor Brought For Arraignments For Hunger Protest Faints In Court.
The suspects, 75 in number between the ages of 12 and 15, are being charged with 10 counts of terrorism, an attempt to overthrow the government, and alleged mutiny over their participation in the nationwide protest.
They were brought before Justice Obiorah Egwuatu of the Federal High Court Abuja by the Nigerian Police.
They were allegedly arrested on August 3rd and had since been in detention before today.
The case before the court was for arraignment and plea when some of the suspects fainted, which made Justice Egwuatu rise abruptly.
Notable Nigerians and Organisation have condenmed the arraignment of these minors among whom are, Oby Ezekwesili, Amnesty International and Omoyele Sowore.
According to Omoyele Sowore, condenmed the Nigerian Justice system through his verified X handle said it is worst than the apartheid in South Africa as he called their bail conditions as egregious.
“The Nigerian justice system is worse than that of apartheid South Africa, even at this time. Justice Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the most egregious bail conditions: N10 million naira with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a civil servant of grade level 15 with a verifiable address within Abuja. One must be the parent of the children.
Technically, these #Endbadgovernance76 minors are going to rot in jail because there is no way they could individually meet these inhuman bail conditions”.
