Nigerian Army constructs state-of-the-art Health centre for Abia community

Umuchieze Community in Umunneochi local Government Area of Abia State rolled out drums in Saturday as they gathered at Orota Eluama Lokpaukwu to celebrate the completion and commissioning of a state-of-the-art primary health facility built by the Nigerian Army for the people.

The health facility whose construction commenced in May last year is completely powered by a three thousand two hundred Watts solar system with one hundred and thirty-two metre bore-hole.

The ultra modern Health centre named after the late traditional ruler of Umuchieze clan and the Chieze the second of Umuchieze , Eze Rueben Ogochi Okwale is also fully equipped computer centre, medical units comprising a maternity ward with delivering and recovery rooms, theatre, pharmacy, nutrition and family planning units, male and female wards as well as childrens ward, spacious reception area, green area to facilitate early recovery of patients.

Speaking at occasion, Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti expressed satisfaction with the standard of the facility’s architectural design and equipment and commended the Nigerian Army for the exemplary gesture particularly Major General Aligbe who facilitated the building of the project in memory of the late traditional ruler of Umuchieze clan.

Governor Otti represented by the Commissioner for Health Prof. Enoch Uche described health as a fundamental pillar of human security, pointing out that there is an established nexus between security and health in societal development and peace.

He assured of the unwavering commitment of his administration in making the health of Abians a priority in his development strategies.

In his remark, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenat General Olufemi Oluyode , represented by the Commander Training and Doctrine Command Major General Kevin Aligbe said the Nigerian Army has continued to strengthen its non-kinetic lines of operation through the execution of civil-military co-operation projects across the country noting that the project is among over two hundred others being undertaken across the six geo-political zones of the country.

The Chief of Army Staff while explaining that the naming of the health facility after the late Eze Reuben Oguchi Okwale, was in recognition of his meritorious service to the Army before retirement, enjoined the people of Umuchieze to take proper ownership of the facility.

In their good will messages, the traditional ruler of Umuchieze autonomous community Eze Moses Okwale, the President General Umuchieze Clan Development Union Chief Victor Ogbukwe as well as the Mayor of Umunneochi Chief Sunny Afurobi paid tribute to the late Chief of Army staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja who midwived the project through the influence of their son Major General Aligbe.

They further appreciated the current Chief of Army staff Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyode, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs Major General Gold Chubuisi, commanding and brigade officers, military engineers, the Abia state government and the people of Umuchieze for their roles in ensuring quality and timely completion of the project.

The commissioning ceremony featured the tour of the facility guided by the Director, medical services, Abia State Ministry of health Dr. Borke Okwale, presentation of souvenirs, cultural displays amongst others.
