The wife of the executive governor of Abia State, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has called on all and sundry to ensure that sickle cell patients are given special consideration to enable them live a happy life.
Abia’s First Lady made this call on Thursday, marking the 2024 World Sickle Cell Day with the theme “Hope Through Progress: Advancing Sickle Cell Care Globally.”
Mrs Otti assured that the present administration which has prioritised the welfare of Abians and the health sector, is also committed to improving the quality of life for sickle cell patients in the state by providing support through healthcare initiatives, awareness campaigns, and policies designed to ease their burden.
She called on educational institutions, workplaces, and communities to offer special considerations for individuals with sickle cell disease through flexible schedules, understanding of their medical needs, fostering supportive environments that accommodate their unique challenges, among others.
She also urged Abians from all walks of life to rise to the challenge of the disease and help curtail it by checking their genotypes before entering marriage and romantic relationships.
The Wife of the Governor assured sickle cell patients of her love and prayed for strength, courage, and resilience as they go about their daily routines.
