Rivers peace deal: Fubara has disappointed those who stood by him – Timi Frank
As Nigerians continue to react over the reconciliatory accord brokered by President Bola Tinubu to end the Rivers political crisis, a Political activist, Timi Frank has expressed deep disappointment over Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to embrace the controversial peace deal.
Speaking in an interview on TVC News, Frank lamented that the governor abandoned those who risked everything to stand by him during his political battle.
He noted, “We stood by him when this whole thing started; we took him in as our son, but he has betrayed us.
“It’s heartbreaking.”
The outspoken politician pointed out that Fubara had the unique chance to assert his independence as governor but expressed regrets that, he, instead chose to accept terms that will keep him under the influence of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
According to him, the peace deal is not only a betrayal of his Ijaw roots but also of the wider Rivers people who rallied behind him while the heat was on.
The Activist further lamented that by submitting to external control, Fubara will now run a government of constant deference, unable to make decisions without seeking permission.
While acknowledging that the real losers now are the people of Rivers State who had hoped for a truly independent governor, Frank, therefore called on Governor Fubara to immediately apologise to the people for the betrayal and disappointment.
