Rivers: Wike, allies rule out support for Fubara’s second-term bid
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said that he and his supporters possess the political strength and structure to deliver any candidate of their choice in any election.
Wike stated that he and his political base were the ones who took a firm stand to support President Bola Tinubu and ensured his victory in Rivers State during the 2023 general election.
The minister made the remarks on Monday during meetings with his supporters and political allies in Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
He said that beyond the President’s victory, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also won all elective positions at both the national and state assemblies, as well as the governorship election in the state.
According to the FCT Minister, these electoral successes are a clear testament to his and his supporters’ capacity to mobilise and deliver victories at the polls.
Speaking on Rivers State politics, Wike urged his supporters in Omuma LGA to “listen to Kelechi,” adding, “whatever he tells you, that is where I am.”
On his part, the member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kelechi Nwogu, declared that if Governor Siminalayi Fubara seeks a second term, the people of Omuma will not support him.
He told Wike to go home and sleep as regards the 2027 general elections, stating, “if the sitting governor is contesting election, Omuma will not support him.”
Nwogu added, “The worst person you can follow in your life, is an ungrateful person. When somebody says he is 001, let me tell you sir, I can never be 001 ahead of my boss. If you give me that position, I will reject it.”
He further said, “It is very unfortunate that a son wants to be bigger than his father because of power.”
Nwogu noted that defection was not the issue, but questioned the political capacity and electoral value of individuals who are suddenly defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and declaring support for President Tinubu.
He assured Wike and President Tinubu that the people of Omuma are firmly behind them.
Wike also visited Etche Local Government Area, where he addressed his supporters, emphasising that politics will officially commence in January.
