The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) internal leadership crisis Deepens, as Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary, has resumed duty at the party’s National Headquarters despite the PDP Governors’ Forum endorsing Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s scribe.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, had confirmed Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary on Friday, referencing the Appeal Court’s ruling and instructing the National Working Committee to implement the judgment. However, Anyanwu defied this endorsement and arrived at the PDP National headquarters at Wadata Plaza, proceeding straight to his office to handle party affairs.

This development is the latest in a series of events that have plunged the PDP into internal turmoil. The party has been struggling with significant divisions, particularly surrounding the National Secretary position. The South East zone of the party had nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who had been chosen as the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.

The situation took a dramatic turn on January 27, 2025, when the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, instructing Anyanwu to remain in his position until the Supreme Court issues a final ruling. Tensions escalated further when supporters of Anyanwu forcibly removed Ude-Okoye from the Board of Trustees meeting, prompting security intervention to restore order.

The PDP’s leadership crisis has been exacerbated by criticisms of Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman, who took over from Iyorchia Ayu after his removal by the court. The party’s internal conflicts have sparked concerns about its ability to present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
