Two policemen arrested for shooting at vehicle during stop and search | READ DETAILS
Two policemen (names undisclosed), attached to Jimeta Divisional police headquarters in Adamawa State, have been arrested for shooting at a vehicle during a stop and search operation along River Side, Jimeta.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesman of the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, Preliminary findings revealed that the officers stopped a Mercedes 180 car for a routine search, and the occupants resisted.
One of the policemen fired shots at the vehicle’s tyre, fortunately no casualty was recorded.
“Adamawa State Police Command has received a report of unprofessional conduct displayed by some police personnel deployed to a nipping point attached to Jimeta Divisional police headquarters, who were on duty along River Side, Jimeta.”
“In the course of the encounter, one of the officers behaved in a way and manner prejudicial to discipline by firing gun shots at the vehicle’s tyres, an act considered unnecessary and unprofessional. However, no injuries were recorded” the statement read in part.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered for a thorough investigation into the sad incident.
The command assured members of the public that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken after the completion of the investigation.
