Bolaji Abdullahi Former Nigerian Minister Of Sports Dumps PDP
Bolaji Abdullahi, a former minister of sports and youth development, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdullahi revealed that he is still undecided on his next political move, stating that the decision will be taken in the future and left to God.
In his resignation letter, Abdullahi said he reached the “difficult” decision after days of reflection and introspection.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the letter reads.
Abdullahi was the PDP candidate for the Kwara central senatorial district election in 2023. He lost the race to Salihu Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Interestingly, this isn’t Abdullahi’s first resignation from a major political party. In 2018, he resigned as the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the PDP.
At the time, he cited disagreements with the party’s leadership and a desire to align with his political mentor, Bukola Saraki. Now, Abdullahi seems to be at a crossroads, weighing his options for the future.
Recently, there have been defections from opposition parties in the country to the ruling APC.
Last week, a member of the Labour Party (LP) in the House of Representatives from Plateau State, Rep. Dalyop Chollom representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal constituency defected to the APC.
Earlier five lawmakers comprising four Labour Party (LP) members in Imo, Kaduna, Cross River and Edo states and one Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member defected to the APC.
Meanwhile, these defections has been attributed to fears of 2027 general election for those elected under the opposition political parties, considering what has happened in Ondo and Edo State, with the levels of election manipulations from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in determining the outcome of Election Results.
