Hon Ceekay Igara
National Vice Chairman Labour Party, South East.

The National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party, South East Zone, Mr Ceekay Igara has felicitate with Abians, South East Zone and the entire Nigerians on the 2024 democracy celebration.

Igara who released his felicitation message signed by him to Trustbase news on Wednesday 12 June, described the over two decades uninterrupted civilian rule in the country as a great feat and however accept the fact that our democratic rules still have a long way to becoming a true democratic government.

He enjoined political leaders, who are beneficiaries of our democracy to ensure the provision of dividends of democratic rules to those whose mandate they operate on.

The LP National Vice Chairman called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC , to make people oriented policies in order to regain the people’s confidence, respect the collective wish of citizens at the polls, practice inclusiveness and also allow for a fair playing ground at all times and circumstances.

The message read;

“On behalf of the Labour Party and South East Labour Party in particular, I felicitate with Abians, South East Zone and the entire Nigerians on the commemoration of this year’s Democracy day.

As a nation, we have achieved a great feat with over two decades of uninterrupted civil rule. That however, does not erase the fact that we need lots of improvements to become a ‘true democratic entity’.

We can attain the apex of democracy if only our leaders at all levels, can own up to their responsibilities and ensure that the people on whose mandate they operate on, enjoys the dividends of democracy.
We can’t be said to be practicing democracy when a large number of Nigerians have lost interest in voting owing to past experiences during and after elections.

I therefore call on our leaders and especially Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC , to make people oriented policies in order to regain the people’s confidence, respect the collective wish of citizens at the polls, practice inclusiveness and also allow for a fair playing ground at all times and circumstances.

Government must show unwavering concern and support for the people, protect lives and properties of all Nigerians which is the primary purpose of government and allow ‘government of the people, by the people and for the people’ to stand firm.

The unending cases of insecurity, rise in prices of fuel, electricity and food items in the market are all demeaning to true democracy and must be addressed immediately.

Finally, I charge Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and love irrespective of party affiliation, religion and ethnicity”.

Happy Democracy Day!!!!

Signed:

Mr. Ceekay Igara,
National Vice Chairman, Labour Party, South East.
