Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of forging government appointment letters and falsely presenting himself as Director-General of two non-existent federal agencies, has broken his silence from hiding, insisting the Presidency is attempting to silence him rather than address his claims.
The man, who is facing prosecution over allegations that he headed the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), denied any wrongdoing but declined to provide evidence supporting his claims or disclose his whereabouts.
“You know the government we have. They are just playing a defence mechanism to shut me up. My organisation was set up in 2024,” Adeyemi told Premium Times.
Adeyemi said he could not grant a physical interview because he was no longer in Abuja and added that he had been advised by his lawyers not to make further public comments while legal proceedings continue. “I just decided to speak to you out of respect. My lawyers are working on something. Whatever they say, I will let you know.”
He also claimed his safety was at risk, saying he had gone into hiding because people were allegedly after his life. “They are now after my life. I have gone into hiding. I’m underground.”
“Adeyemi refused to reveal his location or confirm whether he had left Nigeria, maintaining that disclosing such information would endanger him. “I will not be able to disclose any information now. I don’t consider myself safe.”
His comments come after the Presidency accused him of forging appointment letters and falsely presenting himself as the head of government agencies that it said do not exist.
According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Nigeria Police have charged Adeyemi and two others before the Federal High Court on an eight-count charge, with the matter scheduled for hearing on July 27.
The Presidency said the investigation began after the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) complained that another organisation was carrying out functions similar to those assigned to it.
It said the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police on October 17, 2025, alleging that forged appointment letters bearing falsified signatures, seals and reference numbers had been used to create the impression of official appointments into fictitious government agencies.
Investigators alleged that Adeyemi operated from an office inside the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, held meetings with Nigerian and foreign officials, and sought diplomatic support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate United States visas for individuals he described as staff members.
The Presidency also said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised concerns after Adeyemi reportedly convened a meeting with ambassadors at the Wells Carlton Hotel in Abuja without notifying the ministry, prompting inquiries by the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the Presidency, Gbajabiamila denied any knowledge of Adeyemi or the purported agencies, insisting his office neither created the organisations nor issued any appointment letters.
The Presidency further alleged that police arrested Adeyemi on October 27, 2025, and recovered documents described as forged government records during searches of his Abuja office and Suleja residence.
It also claimed investigations uncovered 34 bank accounts linked to Adeyemi, including accounts allegedly opened in the names of government agencies, and alleged that he used forged documents in an unsuccessful attempt to open a Central Bank of Nigeria account under false pretences.
Last month, Gbajabiamila publicly disowned Adeyemi and the agencies he claimed to head, stating that no such offices exist under the Tinubu administration. “The unsuspecting public is hereby advised to note that such an office does not exist under this administration and no appointment has been made in that regard.
