Labour Party Sets up Committee for Abia LG Elections.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party has set up a committee headed by the National Vice Chairman South East, Hon Ceekay Igara, for the purpose of coordinating the process for the conduct of the Party’s Primary for the elections of candidates to participate in the forthcoming local government elections in Abia State, in accordance to Article 13.3.B xviii of the Labour Party constitution as amended.
The appointment letter, which was made available to Trustbase news has Hon Ceekay Igara, the National Vice Chairman South East of the party as the Chairman and six other party members drawn from the Abia State Executive Council of the Party. The letter which was duly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party, Bar Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim respectively.
The Committee Members are as follows:
Hon Ceekay Igara, Chairman.
Hon Prince G.O Ndubueze, member.
Rev Andrew Ohaga, Member.
Hon Mrs Oby Jerry, Member.
Hon John Igbojionu, Member.
Hon Okey Ijeoma, Member.
Hon Udo Ihediwa, Member.
The committee has the following terms of reference;
To give notice to the Commission for the conduct of primaries.
To advertise and sell forms to party members or eligible contestants that will participate in the party primary.
To liaise in all matters with the Commission as it relates to the conduct of the local government elections in Abia State.
To take other steps necessary for the smooth participation of the Party in the upcoming local government elections in Abia State.
The committee were however advised to be properly guided by the provisions of the electoral Act 2022 and the Abia State electoral laws.
