Labour Party Youths Galvanises It’s Grassroots for 2027 as It holds National Youth Conference
In preparation for the 2027 general election, the Labour Party (LP) has galvanized it’s grassroots by strengthening it’s unity and collaboration of the youth to drive the expected new Nigeria, which is the real change needed in the country.
This was as the Party held it’s National Youth Conference at the party’s National headquarter in Abuja, Wednesday 20 November 2024.
The annual meeting had in attendance all the State Youth Leaders, Zonal Youth Leaders, as well as the National Working Committee (NWC) members of Party ably led by Barr Julius Abure, the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Farouk, the National Secretary, and other national delegates.
The youth wing of one of the major opposition political parties in Nigeria and also as an agent for change, however released a communique after their fruitful deliberations which was Chaired by the National Youth leader of the LP, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu. The communiqués are as follows:
“The Youth Wing of Labour Party took a look at the recent face off in the party, and the court interventions adjudging the party’s National Convention held in March 2024 valid. It resolved to lead a state by state reconciliatory engagements of the party members and leaders.
“The youths made a demand on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to send an Executive Bill to the National Assembly for the legalising of BVAS and Electronic Transmission of election results in subsequent elections in Nigeria.
“The youths demand that Mr. President, as a matter of urgency, should reverse some policies that are practically having adverse effect on the wellbeing of Nigerian youths such as fuel pump price, electricity tariff, incessant disruption in academic activities in the universities, amongst others.
“The youths also reminded the President to match words with action by stating the modalities and action plans for the proposed National Youth Conference and are urging the President to be ready to implement to fullest every decision arising from the conference.
“The youths demand the National Assembly to legislate on the retirement limit for all public service positions including the Presidents, Governors and other elected officers at 70 years. This will free a lot of positions for the younger generations to take up important national responsibilities.
“The youths applaud the presence and contributions of a number of National Assembly members at the annual conference and urged for more collaborative efforts towards unifying the party.
“The youths also looked at the performances of the National Chairman Barr Julius Abure and his National Working Committee members and passed a Vote of Confidence on them. It also passed a Vote of Confidence on the National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu”.
