Samuel Eto’o Accused Of Blocking Vincent Aboubakar From AFCON Squad To Protect Scoring Record – Arise News
Fresh controversy has erupted in Cameroonian football after reports claimed Samuel Eto’o blocked striker Vincent Aboubakar from joining the national squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in order to protect his goal scoring record.
According to a report by The Sun, Eto’o, now serving as president of the Cameroonian football federation, allegedly influenced the decision to omit Aboubakar from the final tournament squad.
The newspaper claims Eto’o feared Aboubakar was on track to surpass his own historic tally for the national team. Aboubakar currently has 45 goals in 117 matches, while Eto’o retired with 56 goals in 118 appearances.
The report has triggered debate among fans and officials, with many calling for clarity from the federation on how squad decisions were made ahead of the continental championship.
Neither Eto’o nor the Cameroonian federation has publicly responded to the allegations.
