The candidate for Obingwa West state constituency in the 2027 election, Prince Ikpeoha has cautioned some perceived party hijackers on the need to maintain fairness and recognition of the labour party builders in Abia State.
According to Ikpeoha, the Labour Party which has grown to be a Nigerian major political force was nurtured and built by some party’s stakeholders who worked tirelessly and even took risks, sold their properties to make the labour party what it is today. The Obingwe west candidate frowned particularly the mannerless and inhuman treatment by those reaping from where they did not sow to jettison those that brought victory to the party and gave them power in 2023 which they are enjoying at the moment, without due recognition of their efforts towards the party’s victory particularly, Bar Julius Abure and Hon Ceekay Igara, the current labour party Governorship candidate in 2027.
He maintained that in 2023, the Labour Party produced House of Representatives members, Governor, and State House of Assembly members across the country, more especially in Abia State, the Labour Party provided the platform through which the current government emerged yet couldn’t recognised the fingerd that fed them. The 2027 Obingwa west LP candidate, however assured commited party faithful, that based on current supreme court judgement on the LP internal crisis, the party still belongs to those that built it before the emergence of the current labour party hijackers.
In his statement;Â “many party stakeholders have raised concerns that the party structure and members who worked for that victory have not been adequately carried along in governance. Instead, it appears that people with little or no history with the party are the ones benefiting more.
“It is also on record that the last local government elections in Abia State were conducted on the platform of another political party, the ZLP. This has further raised questions among LP members about the place of the party in the current administration.
“Meanwhile, there are pending matters before the courts relating to the leadership of the Labour Party at the national level. Hon. Ceekay Igara has also been mentioned by stakeholders in Abia as a consensus voice for the governorship in 2027.
“OUR CALLS:
1. To the Judiciary: We respectfully appeal to the courts to consider the labor, sacrifice, and contributions of those who built the Labour Party when delivering judgment on all pending party matters.
2. To the Abia State Government: We appeal that the Labour Party, which provided the platform for the current administration, should be recognized and carried along. Party members who labored deserve a sense of belonging.
3. To Mr. President and Federal Authorities: Please ensure that the constitution is upheld and that political parties are allowed to operate independently.
4. To Nigerians and Abians: Let us remain peaceful. Abia is making progress and deserves unity. In 2027, let every qualified person present themselves and let the people decide.
“CONCLUSION
The Labour Party belongs to those who built it. Barrister Julius Abure and Hon. Ceekay Igara have labored for the party and deserve fairness.
Let justice prevail. Let the party be respected. Let Abia people decide.
God bless Abia. God bless Nigeria”.
