NAFDAC Raises Alarm On Sale Of Unregistered Anti-biotics Injection In Circulation

NAFDAC is informing the public of the sale of an unregistered Ceftriaxone Sodium Injection brand known as ZACEF-TZ Injection.

This product was discovered following an investigation into a consumer complaint received by the Agency in FCT, Abuja.

The investigation resulted in the mop-up of the offending product within the FCT and further directives to all NAFDAC Zonal Directors and State Coordinators to carry out surveillance and mop up the unregistered product within the zones and states.

Ceftriaxone & Tazobactam Injection is a combination antibiotic that is used for the treatment of bacterial infections, surgical site infections, lyme disease, typhoid, Paratyphoid, bone and joint infections, community-acquired pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections pelvic inflammatory disease, uncomplicated gonorrhea, skin and skin structure infections, septicaemia, urinary tract infections, and other conditions.

Please note that the NAFDAC Registration Number A-46344 stated on the product is falsified and does not exist in the NAFDAC database. The product has no manufacturer details and no patient information leaflet inserted in the secondary pack. The product is similar (sound-alike) to a registered drug product EXACEF-TZ Injection (Ceftriaxone Sodium + Tazobactam Sodium) with the same active ingredient combination.
