The Bill on the creation of Aba State, sponsored by member representing IsialaNgwa North/South Federal constituency of Abia state, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe and three others, on Thursday, passed the first reading on the floor of the House of Representatives.
This Bill, when passed into law, will increase the total number of states in the South East Region to 6, creating a balance with other Geopolitical zones in Nigeria who has more than 6 states.
According to the Bill sponsored by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, Hon. Munachim Alozie, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, and Hon. Ifeanyi Ikwechegh, the proposed Aba State will comprise 9 Local Government Areas including, Aba North, Aba South, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West LGAs.
“Aba State when created will not only drive the greater development of South Eastern Nigeria, but will open up opportunities for building more mega cities, commerce and industries which will benefit the entire nation” the sponsors said.
