ABIA LG ELECTION: My committee sold nomination forms approved by LP National leadership -Ceekay Igara | WATCH VIDEO
The National Vice chairman, south east of the Labour Party, cum the chairman, 2024 LGA election in Abia state, Mr Ceekay Igara has countered notions of parallel primary elections in the state, insisting that the nomination forms sold to candidates by his committee , came from the national leadership of the Labour Party, comprising of the national chairman, Julius Abure and the secretary.
Speaking during a media interaction, Igara clarified that the Labour Party do not have an interim working committee, rather a national working committee recognised by the constitution of the party and the electoral Act.
“A federal high court in Abuja has validated the national convention held at Anambra state. A federal high court has also confirmed Julius Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party ” Igara added.
Giving update on pre -election activities ahead of the November 2 local government elections in Abia state, Igara revealed that forms had been sold, primaries conducted and they are waiting for the approval of f the national executive council to approve the list of the candidates before they are submitted to the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC.
He informed that article 27 paragraph 6 and 8 of the constitution of the Labour party gives the council power to vet and approve candidates and even make changes where necessary.
He further stressed that fielding popular choice candidates would ensure that the party wins the 17 seats for the Local Government election in Abia state.
Asked the solution to the crisis in the state, Igara advised that falling back to the constitution of the party and following laid down rules will solve the crisis in the Abia state chapter of the party.
” …,..party is always supreme. No individual no matter how highly placed is above the party; before you do certain things, there should be consultations and discussions” he added.
