Lewandowski steps away from Poland national team
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has decided to step away from the Poland national team.
The 36-year-old announced his decision in a post on his X account on Sunday.
Lewandowski said he will not play for Poland again as long as the Poland head coach, Michał Probierz, remains in charge of the team.
“Considering the circumstances and the loss of trust in the Polish National Team coach, I have decided to step back from playing for the Polish National Team as long as he remains the coach,” Lewandowski wrote on Sunday.
“I hope I will have the chance to play again for the best fans in the world.”
Lewandowski had withdrawn from selection for Poland’s June camp after telling Probierz he was “mentally tired.”
He was also absent for Poland’s friendly win over Moldova on Friday.
He will likewise take no part in their World Cup qualifier against Finland on June 10.
