2027: Presidency reveals when Tinubu will pick a running mate, clarifies alleged rift with Shettima | READ MORE
The Presidency has waved off the continued allegations that there are plans to drop off Vice President Kashim Shettima and chose another running mate for President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
Recall that there have been controversies and speculations owing to the omission of Shettima from a wave of endorsements for Tinubu.
Speaking on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga stated that such claims were baseless, adding that the president needs to wait for the APC to host a convention come 2026, get nominated first, before choosing a running mate.
“When I read the report, I dismissed it as a non issue. In a presidential system, the candidate emerges first and then selects a running mate. That’s what happened under Buhari – he was nominated first and later picked his running mate. You don’t do both at once.
“Once INEC releases the timetable, the party convention will hold, and if the president is nominated again, he will choose his run-ning mate,” Onanuga told Daily Trust.
