Mikel Obi’s Ex-Agent, John Shittu Claps Back At Samson Siasia

Former Nigeria Under-23 coach, Samson Siasia, has ignited a war of words between himself and the camp of former Nigeria international, Mikel Obi.

Earlier in the week, Siasia granted an interview in which he claimed that Mikel Obi’s agent, John Shittu, attempted to bribe him with €50,000 for a slot in the 2008 Olympics squad.

“Going to the Olympics, Mikel wanted to come and play. His agent said he would give me €50,000 to include him,” he said.

He also revealed that he didn’t accept the bribe and didn’t name Mikel Obi in the Olympic squad because the player failed to turn up for the last qualification game ahead of the tournament.

In response to the allegations, Shittu said Siasia has called him to apologise for the comments, according to The Cable. He added that “as far as I am concerned, it’s a forgotten issue”.

“I am one of the most respected agents in the game,” the football agent said.

“I don’t engage myself with damaged or inconsequential people.”

Note that Samson Siasia has not coached any team since 2019, when FIFA found him guilty of accepting money to manipulate matches. The offence landed him a ban, which he has finished serving.

Even though it has been almost a year since he regained his coaching license, there is no known team currently seeking his services.
