Ex-Lawmaker Farouk Lawan alleges manipulation in Kano bye-election
Former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, has alleged that last Saturday’s State Assembly bye-election in Kano State was manipulated in favour of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Lawan, who recently completed a five-year jail term for bribery accused the NNPP of perpetrating “injustice” in the Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies in a Facebook post written in Hausa.
The former lawmaker, who once represented Bagwai/Shanono in the House thanked supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as their sacrifices during the poll.
“Truly, you made remarkable efforts and sacrifices, honouring the call to come out and vote as always. However, by Allah’s decree, everyone witnessed the injustice meted out to us by the ruling opposition party in Kano State during this bye-election,” Lawan stated.
He maintained that the APC’s mandate was “stolen” and urged his supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the party would explore legal and political avenues to challenge the outcome.
“By God’s grace, we will soon take the necessary steps. May Allah reward our supporters abundantly for the love and loyalty you continue to show us day and night,” he added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared NNPP candidates winner of the two constituencies, but the APC has since rejected the results.
By-elections, Faruk Lawan,
