Wike can support APC but cant force PDP not to field presidential candidate – Prof Kila
Professor Anthony Kila has said that as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, can decide to support the presidential candidate of another party.
However, he pointed out that the former Rivers State governor does not have the powers to subject the entire party not to field a presidential candidate come 2027.
Wike is alleged to have told the PDP that one of the key conditions for him to agree for a lasting peace in the party, is that the main opposition must not field a candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Reacting to this following the violent clashes that happened at the National Secretariat of the PDP on Tuesday, Kila said it was ok for the Minister of the FCT to follow whoever he wants to support and leave the other members to make their own decisions.
“In the PDP, there are people who are going different direction. Wike and those who follow him for any reason in the world, they have their candidate already who they want to be president,” he said on TRUST BASE NEWS.
“That candidate is not in the PDP. I do not know why they should now be interested in the people who don’t want that candidate now. I do not know why, but other people know why.
“I believe, and I want to be very clear here, I believe that it is legitimate for Minister Wike to say that he wants his party to support an APC president, but the way to go about it, I believe, is to have a proper conversation on the table.
“To say, ‘dear party, my name is Wike. I would want President Tinubu of the APC to be president. Please, let us support him’, and if the party agrees, then they support him if they disagree that to be minority, a minority.”
