A former councillor in Ohafia legislative council, Hon Uguru Uduma a.k.a Makiba, has Petition the Inspector General of Police, incharge of the zone 9, Police Command over his alleged Kidnapping, torture and threats to his life and family.

The Petition was made by his legal counsel, Anaga Kalu Anaga & Associate dated 14th November 2025. The Petition maintained that his client was on the 6th of November Kidnapped and tortured by a group of boys from Amaekpu Ohafia and collected a ransom of N100,000 ( one hundred thousand Naira) before his release.

The boys alleged to have been involved in this act of criminality according to his council are Chidi Igu Uduma, Eke Daniel Urum, Ulu Nkata, Okorie Olugu, Ochu Kalu Agwu, Okpontu Leonard and others who are not known to his client.

Viral video posted by these assailants revealed that HM Uguru Uduma was subjected to various manners of physical and phycological torture for allegedly insulting Eke Daniel Urum, who is the councillor representing Isiama ward in the Ohafia legislative council.

The petitioner further alleged that those involved in this dehumanising act against Hon Uguru were boasting as they claimed that nothing will ever happen due to their coverage and influence of the current Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu.

Efforts by Trustbase News to contact the office of the Deputy Governor on this grievous allegation was unsuccessful.

The humiliation and torture of the former councillor was recorded by those involved and shared online.

Meanwhile it was alleged also that Hon Uguru while under torture, severally called the Deputy Governor to inform him of his ordeal at the hands of those boasting of his coverage, yet the Deputy Governor allegedly listened, yet did not intervene to rescue him, rather switched off his phones.

The petition request the Police to investigate the unlawful kidnapping, torture and threats to the life of Hon Uguru Uduma and also to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to Justice.

Mrs Ezinne Uduma Uguru, the wife of the embattled former councillor, Hon Uguru Uduma also gave further details to what let to the brutal torture of her husband as seen in a short video circulating online.

She explained that the conflict began on 28 October, during a road construction project her husband was supervising. She said tension arose when the councillor, Eke Daniel Urum, arrived at the site insisting that he also brought tippers for the road filling, even though the workers had already agreed on payment procedures with the Tipper Union.

Mrs Uduma said the councillor became angry when the Union chairman referred to him as “one guy” over the phone, insisting he should be addressed as an Honourable. He later accused her husband of slapping him — an allegation she said was disproved when both her husband and the site engineer denied it while speaking to the Deputy Governor.

She narrated that on 6 November, her husband was invited to Skog Lodge by Chidi Igu Uduma, who claimed the councillor reported him for disrespect. After hours of waiting, several men arrived on motorcycles, seized him, and took him to where the councillor and the youth leader, Ulu Nkata, were waiting.

Mrs Uduma said her husband was confronted over the alleged disrespect and then punished.

“At about 6:30pm, they flogged him, humiliated him, and threw him inside their secret cell,” she said. “They told him to bail himself with ₦100,000.”

She added that when she confronted the councillor the following day to ask why her husband was treated so brutally, he allegedly replied that nothing could be done to him “as long as the Deputy Governor is his boss,” adding in Igbo: “usu enweghi ọnụ.”

All eyes are now on the police to see to the end of this imbroglio as the Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, is yet to release an official response to the said petition.
