Landlords in Rivers State have praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his administration’s strides in infrastructure, education, health, and community development across the state.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the Rumuokania II New Layout Landlords Association—led by Chairman Pastor Joel Gbandi and Secretary Lucky Atiegoba—commended the governor for the recently completed Rumuoke/Pipeline internal roads, describing the project as transformative.

They noted that the rehabilitation and construction of new roads under Fubara’s leadership have rekindled hope among residents and boosted economic activities in their communities.

“We are particularly thankful for the completion of the Rumuoke Road from Okilton Junction off Ada George Road to Road 9 and the adjoining avenues, as well as the Pipeline Road up to the canal, expertly executed by Monier Construction Company (MCC),” the group said.

The landlords, however, raised concerns over recurring flooding in the area, warning that blocked canals now pose a threat to the durability of the newly constructed roads.

They explained that the canal—serving communities such as Rumuokania, Ogbogoro, Egbelu, Elioparanwo, Rumuepirikom, Rumuolumeni, and others—has become severely obstructed, causing water to overflow onto the road surface and trigger erosion.

“This obstruction has created hazardous conditions for buildings, motorists, and pedestrians. We request urgent desilting of the canal to restore proper drainage and prevent further flooding,” the association stated.

They also appealed for the construction of adjoining roads to improve access and ensure the long-term sustainability of the state’s infrastructure investment.

The residents pledged continued cooperation with the governor, commending his “unassuming nature and peaceful approach to governance,” which they said has helped stabilise the state following the six-month emergency rule.

“We applaud the governor’s renewed vigour in recovering lost ground and transforming the state. We anticipate his kind intervention in addressing the emerging flooding challenge,” they added.
