The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has confirmed an attack on its checkpoint along the Wawa–Babanla Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar Muti, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, between 12:28 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
According to the statement, a group of heavily armed bandits, whose exact number is yet to be ascertained, stormed the checkpoint and opened fire on officers on duty. The personnel tactically withdrew from the scene and escaped unharmed.
However, the attackers made away with the officers’ personal belongings, vandalised an operational Hilux vehicle by deflating its tyres, and carted away one G3 rifle.
The checkpoint is located about three kilometres from Wawa town and approximately nine kilometres from the 221 Armoured Brigade Barracks.
DSC Muti confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the attack.
He added that the NSCDC is currently collaborating with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and restore peace and security in the area.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
