2027: INEC boss, Amupitan proposes N873.78bn for general election
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has proposed a budget of ₦873.78 billion for the forthcoming general elections.
The Chairman of the Commission, Prof Joash Amupitan, submitted the proposal on Thursday during INEC’s presentation of its proposed budget.
INEC is proposing ₦873.78 billion for the 2027 general elections, with over ₦200 billion allocated to election technology.
Amupitan, who presented the proposed budget before a joint committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Electoral Matters, said the budget is divided into five major components.
According to the INEC chairman, ₦375.75 billion is earmarked for election operations.
He said ₦92.31 billion would be used for election administrative costs.
Amupitan stated that ₦209.21 billion is allocated for election technology.
He added that ₦154.90 billion is for election capital costs, while ₦41.61 billion is set aside for miscellaneous expenses.
