A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, over alleged possession of suspected human remains and items reported stolen.

The Suspect was apprehended by detectives of the Ondo State Police Command following allegations that he unlawfully took several items said to belong to his father, Kehinde Awomehinde.

Items reported stolen include three motorcycles, nine goats, quantities of palm oil, four Android phones, two gas cylinders, gold items, and rugs.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the incident, said preliminary investigations indicate that the Suspect allegedly sold one of the rugs.

Jimoh added that items the Police believe may be linked to ritual activities were recovered from the suspect’s residence.

“Acting on credible intelligence, a thorough search was conducted at the suspect’s residence, during which officers recovered items suspected to be of ritualistic and criminal significance,” he said.

“These include a piece of bone suspected to be human skeletal remains, which will be subjected to forensic analysis, two native sponges, fetish charms, black soap, and one expended AK-47 shell.”

According to the Police spokesperson, two additional suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated, according to the police.

Jimoh said the suspects have made statements to investigators, adding that they will be charged to court if evidence establishes offences against them.

He assured residents of Ile-Oluji and the wider public of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police station.
