
A federal High Court Kano has ordered Sen. Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party’s National Chairperson Caretaker Committee and Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, National Secretary Caretaker Committee to maintain status quo ante bellum pending the hearing and determination of the interlocutory application brought against them by Mohammed Abdullahi Raji, LP Chairman Kano State and Abdulrahim Imam Chindo, LP Chairman Sokoto State on their behalf as members of the party’s National Executive Council.
According to the Court order seen by Trustbase News. The defendants are
1.Sen. Nenadi Esther Usman ( National Chairperson Caretaker Committee LP)
2.Sen Darlington Nwokocha ( National Secretary Caretaker Committee LP)
3.Labour Party.
4.Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC)
The order of interim injunction restrained the 1st and 2nd respondents, their agents, assignees, officers, employees, ad-hoc staff, or privies, however described from convening, organising and/or holding a purported National Convention scheduled to take place on the 28th day of April 2026, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed before the honourable court.
Also an order of the honourable court directing all parties to maintain status quo ante bellum pending the hearing and determination of the interlocutory application.
Moreso, for such further or other orders as the honourable court may dream fit to make in the circumstances of the case before it.
However, this turn of events is a major determinants of the powers of the Nenadi led NEC in making major decisions for the party without properly convening NEC in accordance to the constitution of the party.
It is also in the public domain that the party’s state chairmen and secretaries has issued a votes of no confidence to Nenadi’s NEC, constituted in a meeting in Umuahia which was called by the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti and Peter Obi, former Labour Party 2023 Presidential candidate that was alleged not be inline with the constitution of the party considering who is eligible to call for a NEC meeting based on the party constitution.
