“DEMOCRACY DAY MESSAGE FROM THE DAVID OF ABIA
Hon. Ceekay Igara
June 12, 2026
My dear Ndi Abia and fellow Nigerians,
Twenty-seven years ago, Nigeria broke the chains of military dictatorship and reclaimed her democratic destiny. June 12 remains a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the unwavering belief that the voice of the people must always prevail.
Today, we celebrate not just democracy, but the ideals that sustain it: justice, accountability, transparency, and service to the people.
Democracy must be more than elections. It must deliver hope. It must create opportunities. It must protect the weak and guarantee that every vote counts and every citizen matters.
As another political season approaches, I call on our institutions to uphold the rule of law and protect the sanctity of the people’s mandate. The era of manipulated mandates must give way to electoral integrity, accountability, and leadership with purpose.
The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.
Despite our challenges, I remain optimistic about Nigeria. We have overcome great trials before, and we shall overcome again. The Nigerian spirit remains strong, resilient, and unbroken.
To my beloved Ndi Abia, I bring a special message of hope.
Beyond roads, infrastructure, and economic development, there is a deeper restoration that Abia needs.
As The David of Abia, I believe our generation has a divine responsibility to restore the glory, dignity, and purpose of God’s Own State.
Abia must become more than a slogan. It must become a living reality where righteousness, integrity, excellence, and the fear of God guide our leadership and shape our future.
The restoration of Abia is both physical and spiritual. It is the rebuilding of our economy and the rebuilding of our values. It is the return of prosperity and the return of godly principles.
I see an Abia where merit triumphs over favoritism.
I see an Abia where our youths can dream again.
I see an Abia that becomes the pride of the South-East and a model for Nigeria.
Most importantly, I see God’s Own State becoming truly God’s Own State again.
Let every son and daughter of Abia be encouraged.
Let every community believe again.
Let every family hope again.
The story of Abia is not ending in decline. The story of Abia is entering a new season of restoration, prosperity, and greatness.
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.
Happy Democracy Day, Ndi Abia.
The restoration is here. The future is bright. The best is yet to come”.
Signed:
Hon. Ceekay Igara
