3.The Farm Mill / Hatchery Officer
Job Summary:
The Hatcher will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the fish hatchery, with primary responsibility for hatching, nursery management, fingerling production, grading, sorting, and growing fingerlings to jumbo size for sale.
The successful candidate will oversee the complete hatchery production cycle, from broodstock management and spawning through hatching, nursing, grading and sorting, to the production of healthy, uniform jumbo-sized fingerlings ready for customers.
The Officer will be expected to maintain high survival rates, minimise mortality and production losses, optimise feed usage, maintain excellent water quality and biosecurity standards, and ensure that production targets and sales requirements are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Hatchery Operations
Manage the complete fish hatchery production cycle.
Select, maintain and manage broodstock for successful breeding.
Carry out spawning, egg collection, incubation and hatching activities.
Monitor hatchery tanks and water quality throughout the production cycle.
Ensure proper feeding and care of larvae, fry and fingerlings.
Maintain optimal conditions for healthy and rapid fingerling growth.
Fingerling Production & Nursery Management
Manage nursery ponds/tanks from fry stage through to jumbo-size fingerlings.
Monitor growth rates, stocking densities and fish health.
Conduct regular grading and sorting to maintain uniform fish sizes.
Reduce overcrowding, cannibalism, mortality and growth variation.
Ensure fingerlings are properly conditioned and healthy before sale.
Maintain accurate production records from hatching through to jumbo size.
Feed Management
Ensure appropriate feed is provided at each stage of fingerling development.
Monitor feed consumption and minimise feed wastage.
Maintain proper storage and handling of hatchery feeds.
Work with the Feed Mill Officer/Team to ensure the hatchery has adequate feed supplies.
Sales & Production Targets
Plan hatchery production according to expected customer demand.
Ensure sufficient quantities of quality jumbo fingerlings are available for sale.
Maintain consistent production volumes and meet agreed sales requirements.
Support the business in increasing revenue through improved hatchery survival rates, production efficiency and fingerling quality.
Biosecurity & Fish Health
Maintain strict biosecurity procedures throughout the hatchery.
Monitor fish for signs of disease, stress or abnormal behaviour.
Maintain clean tanks, ponds, equipment and hatchery facilities.
Take immediate action and report any disease or mortality issues to management.
Ensure all hatchery operations comply with company biosecurity procedures.
Equipment & Facility Maintenance
Ensure hatchery equipment, tanks, pumps, aerators and other facilities are properly maintained.
Carry out routine cleaning and inspection of hatchery equipment.
Report equipment faults and maintenance requirements promptly.
Ensure the hatchery is kept clean, organised and operational at all times.
Staff Supervision & Training
Train and supervise hatchery assistants and junior workers.

We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Farm Mill Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of our farm, particularly in fish production and feed production activities.
The successful candidate will assist with fish farming operations, feed preparation and management, machinery maintenance, quality control, and general farm activities. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a hands-on environment, willing to learn, and committed to supporting the smooth and efficient running of the farm.
Key Responsibilities
Fish Production Support.
Assist with daily fish farming operations, including feeding, stocking, and monitoring fish health.
Conduct daily checks to monitor fish growth, health, and water quality.
Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of fish ponds, tanks, and surrounding areas.
Report any signs of poor fish health or unusual conditions to the Farm Manager.
Feed Management and Production.
Assist with the preparation and production of fish feed.
Support the distribution of feed to different sections of the farm.
Assist with the storage and inventory management of feed and raw materials.
Ensure feed materials are properly stored and readily available when required.
Monitor feed quality and consistency and report any irregularities to senior staff.
Assist with tracking raw material usage and production output.
Maintenance and Equipment Care.
