The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Daniel Asama has won the House of Representatives rerun election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, defeating Mohammed Gwani who is his closest rival, from the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), by a margin of 4,752 votes.
The Returning Officer, Professor James Garba officially declared Asama the winner on Monday morning, following last Saturday’s tightly contested election. Asama garnered a total of 66,422 votes.
Meanwhile, the Plateau North senatorial rerun election, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang defeated Yakub Muhammad Safiu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Professor Nestor Chagok, the Returning Officer, announced the results in the early hours of Monday, revealing that Dachungyang secured 122,442 votes compared to Safiu’s 53,980 votes.
Meanwhile the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Musa Giwa, came third with 39,132 votes, while Gyang Zi of the Labour Party followed with 33,243 votes.
This rerun elections was due to an Appeal Court ruling late last year that nullified the victories of PDP candidates Musa Agah (House of Representatives) and Senator Simon Mwadkon (Senate) and mandated rerun elections within 90 days. The PDP was also excluded from the ballot in both contests based on the court’s judgment.
