Chief executives of Distribution Companies summoned by the Minister of Power, due to Power deterioration.

Due to the worsening power supply in the country, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has summoned the chief executives of Abuja and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Companies.

Also summoned is the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Sule Abdulazeez, as a result of the deteriorating power situation across the country since January this year.

A letter signed by the Director, Distribution Services at the Federal Ministry of Power, B.U Mustapha, directs the CEOs of the Discos and TCN to attend a meeting to be held in the coming week.

The power supply situation nationwide has worsened  since the beginning of the year and power stakeholders have attributed the situation to the over $1 billion indebtedness to gas producers for the amount of product required to run thermal gas-fired power plants.

The letter informed that the meeting would deliberate on issues concerning the worsening electricity supply in the country to proffer lasting solutions.

The minister’s Special Adviser, Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, in a statement, said Adelabu warned that the management of other non-performing discos would also be queried as reports continue to filter in on the situation in their regions.

He said, “These two discos have been summoned due to the worsening power supply situation in their regions despite improved supply from TCN.”

According to him the ministry is determined that the power-generating companies improve performance, which is the reason for generation to over 4,000 megawatts.
